Cheprer (tiež známy ako Khepri) je staroegyptský boh stvorenia, znovuzrodenia a ranného slnka. Jeho meno znamená „Ten, ktorý prichádza do bytia“ alebo „Ten, ktorý sa premieňa“, čo symbolizuje neustály cyklus obnovy a vzkriesenia.
Cheprer bol často zobrazovaný ako skarabeus (dung beetle) alebo ako muž s hlavou skarabea. Tento chrobák mal v egyptskej mytológii hlboký význam, pretože Egypťania pozorovali, ako valí guľôčky hnoja, do ktorých kladie vajíčka, pričom sa z nich neskôr liahnu larvy. Tento proces vnímali ako symbol samostvorenia a večného kolobehu života.
Skarabeus bol preto považovaný za posvätné zviera spojené s každodennou obnovou slnka. Egypťania verili, že Cheprer podobne ako chrobák valí slnečný disk cez oblohu a umožňuje tak jeho každodenný vzostup.
Cheprer bol úzko spätý so slnečným bohom Ré a predstavoval rannú fázu jeho cyklu. Zatiaľ čo Ré bol hlavným slnečným bohom, Cheprer symbolizoval východ slnka, zatiaľ čo Ré-Horachte vládol na poludnie a Atum zastupoval západ slnka.
Mýtus naznačuje, že Cheprer sa každé ráno rodil z podsvetia, čím znova privádzal slnko na oblohu. Tento cyklus sa vnímal ako metafora neustáleho znovuzrodenia, a preto bol Cheprer dôležitý aj v kontexte posmrtného života – zosnulí sa mohli, podobne ako on, znovuzrodiť vo večnosti.

Cheprer (also known as Khepri) is the ancient Egyptian god of creation, rebirth, and the morning sun. His name means “He who comes into being” or “He who transforms,” symbolizing the constant cycle of renewal and resurrection.
Cheprer was often depicted as a scarab (dung beetle) or as a man with the head of a scarab. This beetle had a profound meaning in Egyptian mythology, as the Egyptians observed it rolling balls of dung into which it laid eggs, which later hatched into larvae. They saw this process as a symbol of self-creation and the eternal cycle of life.

The scarab was therefore considered a sacred animal associated with the daily renewal of the sun. The Egyptians believed that Cheprer, like the beetle, rolled the sun’s disk across the sky, enabling its daily ascension.
Cheprer was closely associated with the sun god Re and represented the morning phase of his cycle. While Re was the main sun god, Cheprer symbolized the sunrise, while Re-Horakhte ruled at noon and Atum represented the sunset.
The myth suggests that Cheprer was born from the underworld every morning, bringing the sun back into the sky. This cycle was seen as a metaphor for constant rebirth, and Cheprer was therefore also important in the context of the afterlife – the deceased could, like him, be reborn in eternity.
